About

For over 133 years Colinton Furniture, previously Craighouse Cabinet Works, has been making exquisite handcrafted furniture for the drawing rooms, board rooms and studies of Scotland’s most prestigious addresses.

Ours is a business run on the pride of making something truly unique. Rather than settling for compromise on colour, size or materials, let our ‘family’ of time-served master craftsmen and gifted apprentices breathe life into your ideas.

WHO WE ARE

Rich with character

Colinton Furniture evolved from Craighouse Cabinet Works which began making handcrafted and bespoke furniture in 1883 for the good people of Scotland and beyond. In the libraries, studies and reception rooms of some of the country’s most prestigious private addresses, and long-standing businesses, you’ll find examples of our work in every wood imaginable.

Personal service above all

Commissioning a piece of bespoke furniture is a wonderful experience to be enjoyed from initial idea-sharing right through to final unveiling. Testimony to our belief in building great relationships with clients we are immensely proud to have many loyal customers who come back to us time and again, generation after generation.

Our Philosophy

No less than exactly what you want

Buying a piece of furniture or joinery that has been made for a particular space or room has a very definite sense of satisfaction around it. But why is that?

It’s probably because you buy a mass-produced piece of furniture it’s not always what you want. Not the right size, the right colour, or anything out of the ordinary.

We’ve spent over 133 years creating beautifully bespoke furniture. By taking the time and care to listen we can begin to shape a design that will be so much more than ordinary.

  • How do you use the room?
  • What styles do you like?
  • What overall look are you going for?
  • What materials are you drawn to?
  • Have you seen anything in a magazine or on Pinterest that gives a sense of what you would like to create?

At Colinton Furniture we believe it’s our ability to truly listen to our customers needs that sets us apart. Call us perfectionists, but we want you to gaze at your custom-made piece for years to come, happy in the knowledge it is nothing less than perfect.

Our Team

Here are the people who make up the Colinton Furniture ‘family’. Discover the wealth of talent in the heads and hands of our team, and you’ll soon learn why pride in a job well done is the reason why nothing short of exactly what you want is good enough.

Dennis Walton

Dennis Walton

Managing Director & Owner

Dennis will freely tell you that what gives him the greatest satisfaction is sensing the pride in his team as they bring each project to life. He knows that with their exacting standards, if his team are happy then the client is sure to feel the same. When he’s not running the business, he’s out running or enjoying a sail.

Danielle Walton

Danielle Walton

Content Marketing Manager

Danielle is the expert voice of Colinton Furniture on Social Media. When she’s not sharing our latest projects, or writing about the things we do best she’s sharing her latest design finds online. She loves seeing how creative the team can be with new materials and her favourite job was a reception desk for a major commercial office honed from Corian and finest Walnut. When’s she’s not talking to customers online you’ll find her sailing with her Dad or tinkling the ivories.

Finn

Finn AKA ‘Finnegan McInnegan’ is a regular visitor to the Colinton workshop. When he’s not traipsing mud through the office, he’s finding someone’s feet to use as a pillow for a quick snooze.

Richard Gray

Richard Gray

Apprentice Cabinet Maker

Richard gets a buzz watching something leave the workshop he knows he helped to build, and that not many people have the skills to do just that. During his apprenticeship learning from the other craftsmen around him he’s built a staircase and worked with oak and multiple other trades to produce an exhibition project for the National Museum of Childhood. Not one to take life slow even in his spare time his other passions are downhill biking and Motocross.

Mark Cuthill

Mark Cuthill

Site Installation Joiner

Mark can work with any material. He has nearly 20 years’ experience under his belt and knows how best to do each job so that every element fits perfectly. As the clients who ask for him by name, time and time again will testify, Mark only leaves when the job looks good. Communication he believes before, during and after the job is critical. Clearly a man born to work with his hands, he also restores old motorbikes and was chosen to represent Scotland as a fly fisherman.
